How SSY interest is calculated

Interest is calculated monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month, and credited once a year at the end of the financial year. That is why depositing before the 5th — ideally before 5 April for the full year — maximises interest. This calculator uses yearly compounding at the start of each year, which matches that best case.
